Tukad Cepung Waterfall is a mesmerizing mix of water, mist, and light. All these elements come together inside a dimly lit cave, creating a scene you simply won’t forget!

As light rays enter the area, a veil of water showers down from rocks above and lands in a shallow pool below. It’s no wonder this waterfall is gaining so much attention. You simply MUST visit this area if you’re staying in Ubud.

4. How Do You Get To Tukad Cepung Waterfall

The best and most accessible way to get around Bali is by scooter.
Scooter rentals in Ubud cost around $5 per day and are available from most of the locals. You’ll probably be able to organize one through your accommodation.

The route to the falls is well signposted and accurately displayed on google maps. Follow our link in the map above for the correct location. 

The drive through this more rural side of Bali is reason enough to visit the Tukad Cepung waterfall.

You’ll pass flowering fields, cascading rice terraces, and villages. It was some of the most beautiful scenery we’ve seen in our entire Bali trip. 

Another great option is to hire a private driver and car for the day.

Grab, and Gojek are also transport options for getting to the falls. Both platforms work like uber. You need to install one of the apps on your phone and request a car.

The apps will pick up your location and send a driver to you. For the final destination type in ‘Tukad Cepung Waterfall.’ The name should automatically come up, and you can choose it from the menu.

Grab allows you to pay with your credit card, whereas Gojek usually works with cash.

5. Best Time To Go To Tukad Cepung Waterfall

The best time to visit is early in the morning, around 9 am. It’s the best time for prime lighting conditions and to avoid the crowds.

Aim to arrive at 8:30 am, leaving you enough time to make your way down to the falls by 9.

If the sun is out, rays of sunshine fall straight through the opening of the cave, with light beams shoot across.

The trek to the falls is straightforward and takes about 15 minutes.

After paying at the entrance, you’ll venture down some staircases.

Restaurants and shops pave the way down, offering refreshing drinks and simple meals. Some spots will even provide a Bali swing experience.

It’s clear that Tukad Cepung Waterfall is a tourist hot spot, and one of the most commercial falls in Bali.

When you get to the bottom level, you’ll turn left. Follow the shallow stream towards the increasingly louder sound of splashing water.

You may need to remove your shoes at this point and walk-in shallow waters the rest of the way.

The actual fall, hidden within a cave, is remarkable and brought out all the feels in us.

Before you head back up the staircase, be sure to check out the smaller fall on the other side of the stairs. 

Just beyond the second fall (a trickle of water), you’ll see an entrance to a shadowy cave on the right.
It’s dark at first, but a ray of light filters in from the other side and makes for impressive photos. Few people are aware of this spot, and shortly after we ‘discovered it’ others were coming to see it.

Special Things To Note

The downside of visiting these falls is facing the crowds. If you go around midday, you’ll join a queue of people waiting for their Instagram moment.

It’s challenging capturing secluded photos or photos from the right angle at this site. The biggest problem is when everyone is standing so close to the fall, you’ll need to get creative.

Make sure you’re prepared. Get all your camera settings ready beforehand and set up for low lighting conditions.

Be aware of the rivers’ water level before you head for the falls.
When we were there, the stream of water was low, we weren’t worried about it. But rapid flooding may occur during the rainy season (December- February). Check ahead before descending any stairs.
