Kelingking Beach, also known as Secret Point Beach, is no secret at all and for good reason. This viewpoint is one of the top tourist attractions in the whole of Bali. The T-Rex shaped rock, found on Nusa Penida Island is one-of-a-kind and so famous; it should have its own Instagram account.

Where Is Kelingking Beach

The beach is on the South West coast of Nusa Penida. It’s a 30-minute drive from the harbour.

How To Get There

The best way to get around the island is with a scooter. You can rent one on arrival at the Toya Pakeh harbour or arrange with your accommodation beforehand. Almost every local in Bali offers scooter rental or can arrange it for you.

Alternatively, if you’re staying on mainland Bali, you can arrange a day tour to Nusa Penida island. Day tours to Penida island almost always include a visit here.

Cost

Entrance into the area is 10,000 IDR per person and parking is free. Plenty of local restaurants line the entrance, providing cheap lunch with a spectacular view! 

What To Expect

Multiple parking lots and restaurants pave the way as you stroll down to the viewing sight.

Most people visiting the area don’t venture further than the stairs forming the spine of the so-called T-rex. Crowds head back to restaurants and enjoy the sea views after taking their Instagram-worthy shot of the oddly shaped boulder.

If you’re up to it, The hike (or rather rock climb) down to the beach takes around an hour but is well worth the mission. The path is secured by a bamboo railing and has some very steep drops and occasional rope for when things get too vertical. The beach is usually only visited by the brave and fit, making it a whole lot quieter and our kind of paradise. It’s also one of the only beaches in Bali with big shore-breaking waves and absolutely no rocks leading into the sea (unlike at Diamond Beach). A few big trees offer shady spots on its soft white sand. For many reasons Kelingking Secret Point Beach is our favourite beach on Nusa Penida and visiting it was one of our most memorable experiences in Bali.

Best Time To Go

If you’re staying on the island, the best time to get there is in the morning before noon. After such time the day visitors arrive, and soon the area you’re in is flooded with Instagrammers, droners, YouTubers, and happy snappers. You will also want to avoid climbing up and down hundreds of stairs in the midday heat. If you’re not staying on the island or are on a private day tour, this will usually be the first place your tour guide stops.

Special Things To Note

Kelingking beach is not for the faint-hearted. On our way up and down the steep steps, we came across quite a few dehydrated tourists, some in need of help. one or two people even sported big open gashes from taking a tumble down some rocks. Be careful when climbing, take it slow and stay hydrated.
