Best Waterfalls In Bali

If you’re looking to escape the Kuta crowds and want to explore Bali’s more beautiful landscapes, hunting down waterfalls should be on your itinerary. Most Bali falls are popular tourist attractions famous on the gram, but if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find secluded ones just off the beaten track. We’ve provided details on an array of waterfalls, how to get to them (with a location map), best times to go, associated costs, photography tips and what to expect at each one.

Tukad Cepung Waterfall

Located in Tembuku, around 28 km north-east of Ubud, Tukad Cepung is rapidly gaining popularity and is well known as one of the best waterfalls in Bali.

The road trip through a more rural side of Bali is reason alone to visit this waterfall. The further you drive from Ubud, the quieter the roads become, and soon you’re surrounded by flowering fields and cascading rice terraces amongst the villages. 

Tukad Cepung Waterfall is equally dazzling. Unlike all the other falls we’ve seen, this one hides inside a shallow cave. If you’re lucky enough to visit when the sun’s out, rays of light illuminate its thin veil of water showering down to your feet. It makes for a beautiful scene, and if you get the lighting right, incredible photos. It’s no wonder this waterfall is gaining so much attention.

Air Terjun Kuning

Also known as Yellow Waterfall is in the east-central region of Bali. A 45-minute drive from Ubud. As you arrive, there’s a great view of Bali’s’ signature rice paddies (with a swing). The hike down to the water is more strenuous compared to some of the other falls we visited, but in our opinion, the result is more rewarding.

Not only does this waterfall offer a refreshing dip in a crystal clear rock pool, but has so many paths and routes to explore. The area is lush and filled with jungle plantations. Mini-falls sprout out of rocks along the way to the main attraction. This waterfall may not be listed by many as one of the best waterfalls in Bali but it was definitely on our list and we spent the whole day enjoying all it’s offerings.

Leke Leke Falls

Leke Leke Waterfall is in Bali’s central region, approximately 1-hour from Ubud. You’ll feast your eyes on fantastic Bali jungle views when arriving at this area, and it just gets better. The path down towards the falls is lush and impressive bamboo bridges crossing over the river make for great photo opportunities.

Nungnung Waterfall 

The 50-meter high waterfall is majestic and inspiring with a small rock pool beneath it for swimming in. Be careful as the water isn’t the calmest though.

Located in the high mountains of Northern Bali, approximately 1 hour from Ubud. The journey meanders through hill rice fields and coconut palm plantations to the village of Nungnung.

Sekumpul Waterfall

Known as the Best Waterfall in Bali. ‘Sekumpul’ means collection or group, giving these falls a fitting name as seven of them are plotted along in this single valley. Each waterfall is 5 – 10 minutes apart. They’re located in the northern regions so you may want to consider spending a night in the north giving you more time to explore this area. 

You will be enchanted by the journey to the falls up a steep and windy pass through the hills of Bedugul. Be sure to have your camera ready as viewpoints are situated all along the road. Strawberry Hill Lookout is one of the best.

Tibumana Waterfall

The Tibumana Waterfall is a beautiful and hidden treasure just up the river from the heavily touristic Goa Rang Reng Waterfall. The fall is easy to find and located in Bali’s central region known as Gianyar, approximately a thirty-minute drive from Ubud.

Tibumana Waterfall is the locals hang out spot and less frequented by tourists. The local villagers are friendly and always excited to see new visitors. The 5-minute drive off the main road is followed by a 10-minute walk to the fall, through a lush rain forest and across bamboo bridges stretching across a freshwater stream.
